Huang Tieshan (Born 1939)

Huang Tieshan, born in Dongkou County, Hunan Province, in 1939, graduated from Hubei Fine Arts College in 1959. He now serves as a councilor of the Chinese Artists Association, director of the Watercolor Art Commission, vice president of the Hunan Federation of Literary and Art Circles and honorary chairman of the Provincial Artists Association. His works, including Dongting Lake Series, A Moroccan Town, The Hometown of Levitan and Golden Color of Late Autumn, are collected in art museums around the nation. The painting, Golden Color of Late Autumn, won the Bronze Prize at the 6th National Fine Arts Exhibition and was nominated to attend the Exhibition in Commemoration of the 30th Anniversary of the National Art Museum of China. In 1990, his work Western Coast of Africa won second prize at the China Watercolor Painting Contest. His paintings, Qu Yuan Memorial Temple and Moon over the Xiao and Xiang Rivers, have been included in the JCA Annals of World Art. In addition, he has published many illustrated books, including Collection of Huang Tieshan's Watercolor Painting, Collection of Contemporary Watercolor Masterpieces-Huang Tieshan, Collection of Huang Tieshan's Works and The Copies of Renowned Painter Huang Tieshan's Works.

Furthermore, his works are compiled into watercolor and sketch volumes of The Complete Collection of Modern Chinese Fine Arts. He ever held individual painting exhibition at the National Art Museum of China, Shanghai Art Museum and Shenzhen Guan Shanyue Gallery. Also, he was elected as a member of the appraisal commission for the 7th, 8th and 9th National Fine Arts Exhibitions, as well as vice director and director of the awarding jury for the 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th Watercolor and Gouache Painting Exhibitions. Due to his remarkable achievements, he is awarded State Council special allowance for experts with outstanding contributions. As a member of the Delegation of Chinese Artists, he visited such regions and countries as Africa, France, Russia, Israel and Hungary.
